Join the Cabildo's first
On Saturday 4 the Cabildo offers a guided and re-enacted tour of the castles in Santa Cruz. The simplicity of the castles' attractive architecture led to them being declared Assets of Cultural Interest, protected by law. The route departs from the steps of Tenerife Auditorium at 11:00. Tickets cost €9 and can be purchased from the Museum of Nature and Mankind in Santa Cruz, and the Museum of History and Anthropology in La Laguna
The meeting point for the guided tour is the Auditorium's staircase, facing the sea. The tour starts out on foot to the nearby castle of San Juan and the Casa de la Pólvera. From there, the excursion continues on public transport, included in the ticket, toward the ruins of the castle of San Cristóbal, which once stood in the bay of Santa Cruz. Heading toward the tower of San Andrés, the next stop on the tour of the city's old defence systems is the castle of Paso Alto. The tour is a unique opportunity to visit the castles, which are normally closed to the public.
